Finsbury Square is a public park situated in the City of London, England. It is located in the southern part of the London Borough of Islington, close to the border with the City of London. The park covers an area of approximately 0.7 hectares and is surrounded by a number of significant buildings, including the headquarters of several major financial institutions, such as Aviva, ICAP, and Investec.
The square was developed in the 18th century and was originally called Finsbury Circus. It was designed to provide a place for people to walk, relax and enjoy the fresh air. The name was later changed to Finsbury Square, which is how it is known today.
In the early 19th century, Finsbury Square became a popular place for public demonstrations, particularly those related to political and social issues. The square was also home to a number of Victorian-era public statues, although many of these have since been removed.
Today, Finsbury Square is a popular location for corporate events, including outdoor concerts and film screenings. It also hosts a number of community events throughout the year, such as London Fashion Week and the City of London Festival.
